Culture

The STA concept of culture assumes the main function of culture is a total adaptation to new times. Culture as an ongoing evaluative process.

Because we evolved and exist in a multi-sensory world all the senses must be directly involved in cultural plays of re-evaluation. In order that humans can evolve successfully it is not enough to have a visual culture mediated through a screen. Nor one mediated through black words on a white page. Cultural evaluation must engage all of the basic human abilities in all combinations.

Sensoria is a concept that cultural difference can be analysed as a difference in the proportions in which the senses are prioritised. To understand cutlures that are different from our own we have to take into account the difference between their sensorial and ours. Seems like a useful concept to insert into the STA.

Sensoria is a concept developed by James J. Gibson (1966 & 1979). Key term affordance (see Wikipedia article [2]).
